DIFFERENT TYPES OF SCONCES

Lighting in a room is many times overlooked.  A great lighting plan will improve the appearance of colors and furnishings. The lighting in a room can affect the way you act and feel.  There are three main types of lighting that work together to achieve balance: ambient, task and accent. Wall sconces — depending on where they are positioned — can fit into all three of these categories.  Wall sconces offer the perfect balance between form and functionality.

Ambient lighting should be balanced enough to make it safe to walk around.  In rooms with tall ceilings, sconces can be installed which will add to the lighting. Installing ambient lighting high on the wall
enhances the effect.

Accent lighting adds to a room's
appeal by creating drama.  Wall
sconces with dark shades will
force the light to move above
and below the fixture.   This
will create an hourglass effect
on the wall which would be
extremely interesting.  Accent
lighting is also used to focus on
a particular art piece.

Task lighting is exactly what is sounds like
It is types of lightings to perform tasks.  Whether
it is for reading, crafts, cooking or homework.  There are many other types
of task lighting.  You will want these sconces to be close by.  In other words close to where you will be working.  They usually look like a lamp shade.  There are many different styles depending on your individual style.

Sometimes you might need to use more than 2 sconces in the same space.  For example, a large bathroom that may need a sconce at each end plus one in the middle to receive the amount of lighting needed to get ready for the day.
